Alexandre Tobie, the engineer behind fasterengineering
fasterengineering is run by Alexandre Tobie, a former engineering-office engineer turned founder of Syntelier. After ten years in engineering offices and systems integration, he designs engineer-controlled AI methods — the model proposes, code verifies, the engineer decides — to give engineers back time and refocus them on their core work: design and technical judgment.
01Background
An engineer by training, Alexandre spent around ten years in engineering offices and industrial systems integration, in direct contact with the documentation and regulatory constraints of the job: compliance packages (CE, ATEX, IMDS, PPAP), regulatory summaries, RFQ scoping, supplier qualification. It is this field experience — and the frustration of seeing qualified engineering time absorbed by gathering and formatting work — that gave rise to fasterengineering.
02The conviction
AI is only useful in an engineering office if it stays under engineer control. A language model alone hallucinates precisely on what is missing; it cannot carry responsibility for a regulatory file. The method advocated here therefore splits the work: the model proposes, deterministic code verifies objective rules, and the engineer arbitrates and bears responsibility. The goal is not to replace the engineer, but to give them back time for design and technical judgment.
03Syntelier
fasterengineering is the editorial brand of Syntelier, founded by Alexandre. The methods published here are documented from real cases encountered with engineering offices and industrial companies (custom machines, pharma, nuclear, life sciences).
